The Abney Level is named after Captain William Abney of the School of Military Engineering, Chatham, England It is also called an "Angle Sextant" & measures the angle of inclination. To observe the level bubble the front end of the telescope extends. Aligning the bubble with a line in the scope helps read the angle of inclination off the vernier scale on the side. A little magnifier helps to read the angle of the scale. The sprit level can be adjusted with two screws on either side. The abney level comes with a wooden box. The length of the viewing pipe is 12.8 cm when shut & 18 cm extended. It stands 6cm tall & weighs 180 grams.

This Theodolite looks precisely like the ones made in the eighteenth century in England. Its design, size, dimensions & specification is similar to antique theodolites.

Surveyors the world over use theodolites to this day. Theodolite are said to be a surveyors` most important & essential friend. They are the only instruments that simultaneously measure the horizontal angles between two points and their angle of elevation. The compass in the centre has a locking device. A little lever presses down to lock the needle for safe transport when not in use. There is a grove under the stand with threads to mount the piece on a surveyor's tripod. For precision levelling there are three adjustable screws in the base & a sprit level. The two vernier scales can be read through the magnifiers. The image is viewed through an inverting telescope with a lens cover in front. The telescope has a double focusing. A side knob to get the image into focus & the screw near the eyepiece for fine adjustments. This piece is made of solid brass & comes in its own wooden box. It weighs 9 kgs & 12 kgs when packed.

It stands 36 cm tall & the diameter of the base is 15 cm.

Its telescope is 20 cm long & it has a triangular base with each side of the triangle 12 cm in length.

The 6-inch Road Level is a smaller version of the larger one. A Road Level is also called "Dumpy Level" or "Engineering Transit Level". It is a precision instrument used by civil engineers to find the height of objects with the help of a line parallel to the horizon. At the top we have an adjustable level protected by a cover under which is a mirror. This mirror helps reading the sprit level. The viewing telescope is 9 inches long, which gives an inverted image. This image is focused in two ways, from the side & near the eyepiece for fine adjustments. . There is a cover in the front of the telescope for added protection of the lens during transportation. The compass has a locking device. A little lever presses down to lock the needle for safe transport when not in use. Readings on the compass are magnified & read through a prism on the side. There is a grove under the stand with threads to mount the piece on a surveyor's tripod. For precision levelling there are three adjustable screws in the base.

The length of the telescope is 21 cm & it stands 16 cm tall. It weighs 4 kg when packed for shipping & comes in a wooden presentation/storage box.
